Perancangan Gerak Tubuh Tokoh Dalam Memvisualisasikan Confidence dan Insecurity Melalui Karya Animasi 3D “The Seemstress”
Abstract
Animation is a powerful medium for conveying emotions, messages, and stories through dynamic and imaginative visuals. Among various animation techniques, 3D animation stands out for its ability to depict detailed environments and complex character expressions. This allows for more nuanced portrayals of psychological issues, including insecurity. In the short 3D animated film The Seemstress, body movement plays a crucial role as a nonverbal communication tool to visualize the emotional state of the main character, Safiya, who experiences self-doubt due to external criticism. This study focuses on how character animation can reflect psychological themes by applying fundamental animation principles—particularly timing, slow in and slow out, and follow through and overlapping action of Safiya’s— which is directed to two shots, Scene 1 Shot 13 and Scene 2 Shot 7, to emphasize emotional depth through gesture and facial expression. By analyzing two selected shots from the film, this research highlights how open and closed body gestures can symbolize confidence and insecurity respectively. Through this approach, the study aims to design character movement that authentically reflects insecurity while also identifying key animation principles that support expressive visual storytelling. This research serves as a reference for animators, especially those exploring themes of self-esteem and body image in a psychological context.
